MIGRANT WORKERS’ SKILLS PORTABILITY IN AFRICA AT REGIONAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITY AND CONTINENTAL LEVEL

This BRMM–ILO case story profiles an Ethiopian returnee who, after returning home with no savings and facing stigma and unemployment, accessed BRMM reintegration support delivered through local implementing partners. Through entrepreneurship training, coaching and modest financial assistance, she launched a small retail business that enabled her to regain confidence, generate stable income and support her family. The story also illustrates how BRMM strengthens migration governance by linking returnees to skills development, livelihood opportunities and psycho-social support. It highlights BRMM’s broader achievements, including job creation, expanded financial services and sustainable reintegration pathways.
